Lesbos’ Archaeological Routes
The Archaeological Routes of Lesbos constitute a comprehensive digital initiative by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Lesbos with a primary focus on:
- an online digital platform with interesting and relevant cultural material.
- a mobile app for digital tours that groups together in themed routes the Ephorate of Antiquities of Lesbos- mandated archaeological sites and monuments of Lesvos.
- the construction of an Information Centre at Mytilene’s Kato Kastro (Lower Castle).
Through the use of the island’s map, the digital platform provides visitors with an opportunity to delve into the history and development of Lesbos, with a particular emphasis on its historical sites spanning from Prehistoric times to the Ottoman period.
The archaeological sites of the island are digitally presented through text, images, videos, virtual tours of specific locations, and enhanced displays of the monuments on mobile devices. Consequently, users gain a clearer understanding of the original appearance of the monuments, while also observing their present condition.
Furthermore, the platform’s users can plan future visits to the monuments by obtaining information about visiting conditions and selecting from a range of suggested routes, or even organising their own personalised routes.
